Becca, at BeccA's Buzz has started a new meme! Actually it's Week 2, but this will be my first entry. Each Monday, she will give us a topic. All you have to do is list five things that go along with this topic, and link back to her site. You can add pictures, links, or even stories that relate to the topic as it pertains to you and your life experiences. Come on, join us!
This week's Topic: Give Me Five favorite amusement park rides.
Well, growing up near Houston, we used to visit Astroworld every summer (at least once). Sadly, a few years ago, it was torn down. I believe this is because the property was more valuable than the park. Anyway, so many of my best memories actually happened there.
1. The first time we went there, I was five years old. My parents left my baby brother with my MawMaw, and they brought me. I remember that the theme of the kid section was "Shirt Tales." It was a Hanna Barbera cartoon from the early 80's. I distinctly remember riding the Wagon Wheel. That was my first favorite ride.
2. In 1984, the XLR8 arrived at Astroworld. It was really cool, because you were suspended underneath the track, and your legs would just hang down below. It was fast, but it didn't have any scary drops. It was perfect for kids and adults who weren't into the super scary stuff.
3. As I got older, my favorite ride became the Greezed Lightnin'. It was crazy fast, and basically just sent you up one loop and up a high slope, where you'd hang a few seconds before being pulled back down, backwards, upside down, up again and then it was over. Short ride, but so exciting.
4. In 1993, the Batman ride opened. This was another ride where you were hanging under the track. Only this time, you were getting a real roller coaster experience, with drops and loops. We used to like to sit in the very front, because you felt like you were falling face first on the drops.
5. My number one favorite ride though, was the Texas Cyclone. I didn't have the courage to ride it until I was older, but it was really fun. It opened in 1976, and it was an old school wooden roller coaster; complete with head shaking and scary sounding creaks.
