This week it's very simple. Figure out who each person is below, and email me your answers at holly_f_smith@yahoo.com. I will post the answers on Monday, July 7th. Thanks for playing!!!
I thought I'd squeeze in another post about American Idol while we can all still remember the names of the final contestants! My husband and I definitely watched American Idol more this year than in the past few years combined. There were several performances that just blew me away. 13. Top 12 Finalists - George Michael Medley (you know I had to get my George in there somehow)
Another Wednesday has rolled and around, and I realize that I have not posted the answers to my Thursday Thirteen from two weeks ago! Thea from I'm a Drama Mama was the only person to get them all correct. Way to go, Thea! But I must add that Malcolm from Pop Culture Dish got most of them right as well. (His recent pledge to not use the internet on quizzes is quite commendable.) Thanks for playing everyone!

This week's edition is just thirteen random questions about one of my all-time favorite television shows, "The Golden Girls." Thanks to Lifetime, I think I've seen every single episode at least three times! Please email me your answers at holly_f_smith@yahoo.com. Do not leave them in the comments section, just because you might get them before others have a chance to play. Thanks so much!

13. Just curious, which Golden Girl is your favorite?
Well we're getting down to the wire! I really loved Michael Johns, but I also like David Cook to win this year. I've had his version of Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby" in my head all week. Seriously, who would have thought that this would be the perfect song for him? But I really thought he did an outstanding job. Here's the Youtube video in case you missed it last week.
With only five houseguests left (Ryan, Sharon, Natalie, Sheila and Adam), things are sure to get ugly in the coming weeks of Big Brother. Last night "Crazy James" was given the boot, and I think Natalie might be next. The funny thing to me is that the only original "couple" left in the house is "Sheila and Adam". But when the show started, they really couldn't stand each other. I must say that I like Adam now. I'll be happy as long as Natalie doesn't win. She really gets on my nerves.

Have you seen the new Fox hit New Amsterdam? I love the premise. Basically, the main character, John Amsterdam, is a New York detective that also happens to be immortal. The show is full of flashbacks to centuries earlier, where John remembers events that unfolded in his extraordinarily long life. With New York's rich history, the producers do a great job of creating historically accurate settings. It comes on Monday nights on Fox. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out!
Is anyone out there still watching Big Brother? I've already admitted to being a Big Brother addict. This year started out horrible, but once again, I'm hooked. I don't really have any favorite to win, but Ryan and Sharon seem to be the most "normal" of the bunch. Adam and Sheila are quite a pair, and Natalie is pretty hilarious. If you watch the show, let me know who you think just might win!
As usual, by this time in the season, we've already stopped watching American Idol. After all the bad singers are weeded out, it just isn't as entertaining. Hopefully the rejects can still find some sort of talent management. All of this is coming from one of the most tone deaf people in the world, so while I might sound harsh, I do realize that this just might stem from jealousy....
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the simultaneous health crises of Amanda and Allison last night on Big Brother might have been staged? This season's players have been really dramatic, silly, annoying, and ridiculous. But then again, if they weren't, I probably wouldn't be watching them. I thought that Allison's allergic reaction seemed pretty realistic, but Amanda could have been faking her hypoglycemic spell. I'm probably a terrible person for thinking so, but she seems like she would do something like that just for the attention.
When I was a kid, I used to love watching American Gladiators. Is that weird? Well, at any rate, I looked forward to watching them do things like joust, climb rock walls, and roll around in those hamster ball things. The final obstacle course was always fun to watch, too. But the other day I turned on the new version and it all just seemed really dark and weird (OK, dumb). The fact that Hulk Hogan is one of the hosts might be part of the reason. My brother was addicted to WWF in the 80's, so I've had enough of him!
Did you catch the new AMC series Breaking Bad this weekend? It stars Brian Cranston (dad from Malcolm in the Middle) as Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher that learns he has terminal cancer. While making a run with brother-in-law, who works for the DEA, he recognizes an on-the-run meth dealer as one of his former students. Unsatisfied with his low paying jobs (he also works evenings at the carwash), he decides to put his chemistry knowledge to good use. Meanwhile, he has a pregnant wife and a teenage son at home who have no idea about his new undertakings or his illness. All of this was in episode 1, so I can't wait to see what's in store for us next week. It's a really interesting show so far! AMC is rerunning the pilot episode all week, and episode 2 airs on Sunday night.

Beginning on February 17th, Season 1 of the Showtime Series Dexter will be airing on CBS. For twelve consecutive Sundays we'll get an edited for regular TV version of the cable hit. It's a show about a Blood Spatter Expert/Serial Killer who has has own code for killing. Frankly, I am shocked that this show can be edited enough for regular TV. But, I'm sure it's possible. Season two just finished airing on Showtime a while back, and I can't wait for Season 3! It is an extremely well written, creative, and entertaining show. I don't want to give anything away for those of you who have not seen it. I'll just say that at the end of Season 1, I thought that there was no possible way that Season 2 could possibly be as good. Well, after watching Season 2, I can tell you that it delivered. Once you watch just one episode, you'll be hooked.
Are you a fan of Jericho? We really enjoyed it last year. I think it was originally canceled, but then the fans complained enough and so they brought it back. Pretty cool. If you haven't seen it, I don't want to give anything away. If you go to CBS.com you can actually watch all of the Season 1 Episodes on-line. The second half of the season was even better than the first. I can't wait for Season 2 to begin on February 12th. If you're a fan of the show, please let me know what you thought about Season 1!
Is anyone else out there watching The Real Housewives of Orange County on Bravo? This is Season 3, and pictured above are (from left) Lauri, Tammy, Tamra, Vicki, and Jeana. The newest housewife, not pictured, is Quinn. She just recently joined the show. It could also be called "Lifestyles of the Truly Spoiled Mixed with Complaining, Whining, and Extravagance." As much as they will get on your nerves, it's sort of fun to get caught up in their "so-called" problems. All of them are parents, so as good as they've got it in terms of money, they still have some of the more typical parenting issues in their lives. Still, they are living in a bubble in which most of us would love to burst! (Just kidding.)
Tonight we'll get all new episodes of Friday Night Lights and Las Vegas. I'm wondering when Delinda is going to have that baby, because she looks like she's ready to pop! The episode is titled "Secrets, Lies, and Lamaze" so I'm guessing it won't be tonight. On Friday Night Lights we'll see how life has changed without Tami's sister staying with them. Tonight's episode is called, "Who Do You Think You Are?" If you're fans of these shows, let me know what you think with a comment tomorrow!
Last night was my first attempt at watching ER in a really long time. I tried watching the first half of the show, but then I made a strange realization. I've completely lost interest in ER. This is a show that I watched from the very beginning, and I've rarely missed an episode up until this year. It's just not the same!
Well, last night's show was very entertaining. There were several really talented people. I liked the little farmer cowboy, but I thought his decision to sing, "Check Yes or No" by George Strait was not a good one. I think he voice sounds very similar to Toby Keith. I'm glad they put him through to Hollywood. Also, the girl that could imitate Carrie Underwood and Britney Spears was really talented! She said she could imitate the guy from Rascal Flatts, and I would have loved to hear that as well.
Have you seen "Cities of the Underworld" on the History Channel? When Chris puts the TV on the History Channel, my first reaction is to roll my eyes and sigh. I just can't help myself. But, nine times out of ten, I really enjoy the show!
"Cities of the Underworld" explores underground tunnels, caves, etc. that were used during different events in world history. The hosts, Eric Geller and Don Wildman, make ancient discoveries just below the streets of today's greatest cities. It's all very interesting and amazing. Season two begins on January 28th. You should give it a chance!
Every year it happens the same way. Chris and I look forward to watching the "American Idol" tryouts. Yes, it's partly because we get to laugh at some pretty hilarious and awful auditions. But, it's also fun to try and "call" the people that will make it to the final cuts. I remember when Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, etc. auditioned, and it was obvious that they would eventually make it big. Of course, after a month or so, we stop watching it because it starts to get on our nerves. I don't really care who wins, because those with real talent usually make it pretty far and end up getting recording deals anyway. Plus, I can't STAND the silly dramatics of Ryan Seacrest near the end of the season when he must break the news to the people that they've been eliminated. Sooooo Slooooooow.
Well, last night's episode of Nip/Tuck was new. That was a plus. But, it really wasn't all that great. The writers focused more on the relationship between Sean and Christian. Come on, that's not very interesting! They have both proven to be slimeballs in their personal lives, so I'm not interested in a sweet conversation between them about how they're like brothers....boring. Hopefully the plot will thicken up here in the next few weeks. I am interested to know about what Eden put in Julia's fruitcake!
The Writer's Strike is really starting to bug me! I need my fix of a wide variety of new programming...Now, the Golden Globes are just going to be a little press conference on NBC News. So what is going to happen with the Oscars? According to Entertainment Weekly, an ad executive said that the Oscars are "...the biggest and most consistent TV property of the year behind the Super Bowl." In other words, the Writer's Guild will actually cause quite a problem for the major networks if the Oscars are canceled. What is going on people? Come on AMPTP, give the writers their fair share of online profits. Their words are the heartbeat of the industry. And, Mama needs her TV.
Besides the bowl games, which I must admit that I'm excited about, there's nothing on television these
days! Between the writers' strike and the holidays, it's really hard to find a new episode of anything right now. Plus, my Dexter ended last Sunday. It was everything I wanted it to be, but it still saddens me that the season is over. Now we're waiting for Tudors and The Shield to start...
This week I read a short little article in Time Magazine, entitled "Stay Off the Street." It explains how the newly released early episodes of "Sesame Street" on DVD come with a warning that the story lines "may not suit the needs of today's preschood child." Time says that some of the concerns were that "Cookie Monster eats too many cookies, and Oscar the Grouch is too grouchy." Hahahaha. Come on people. To read more, check out this article from the Rock Chick's blog called Life is Rantastic. So in the spirit of my favorite Muppets from "Sesame Street," here are some fun skits and cartoons from the show. Click to watch the clips on YouTube.
1. Sesame Street Pinball Cartoon
3. The Alligator King
7. You're Alive
8. This Frog
9. One Banana
11. Stevie Wonder Teaches Grover a Song
Tonight's all new episode of "Pushing Daisies" should be a good one. Molly Shannon is guest starring as a mischievous taffy shop owner who is trying to run the Pie Hole out of business. If you're a fan of the show, I'm sure you won't miss it. But if you still haven't seen it, you should check it out tonight on ABC.
Is anyone else I know watching this show??? Oh my goodness, it was so good on Sunday night. I just knew that everything would get blamed on Sgt. Doakes. With only a few more episodes left this season, I can't wait to find out what will happen next! I'm wondering where the writers are going with the Lila situation. If she's smart she'll back off. If you are a fan of the show, please share your thoughts!
"Friday Night Lights" is a really entertaining show. Being from Texas, and from a town where football is still everything, I can totally relate. This season I like the show a lot more than the first season. I guess I had to get used to the characters. If you're a fan of the show, you'd probably be surprised to learn the real ages of the actors. If you're curious, click here for the IMDB link to the show. My guesses were way off. If you haven't seen it, give it a chance on Fridays on NBC.
Did anyone watch Pushing Daisies last night? I thought this one was really good. I've told you before that I really love this show. I think it was off the air for a few weeks, so I was glad to see it return last night. This one was about a polygamist (the host from "The Soup") dog breeder that died because 'someone' poisoned his coffee with cyanide. The writing is excellent on this show! It is really cute and fun (yes, I know it's about death, but if you've seen it you'll probably agree with me). If you haven't seen it, check it out on Wednesday evenings on ABC.
You might be wondering what these things have in common. Well, they are Cameron's favorite things to hear. He is not into watching TV, unless it's a football game with lots of cheering. But, whenever he hears the theme to Young and the Restless, the Nasonex bee, or the commercial for Ambien (or Lunesta) he stops what he's doing and is mesmerized by the screen. I'm not kidding. There are a million different commercials for prescription drugs these days (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.), and Cameron never misses one of them! He will freeze, turn around, and get right in front of the television until it is over. Then he goes back to playing. For this reason, I think music is going to be key in helping him communicate.
You know, I've always been able to say that I'm a true fan of ER. But, this year I'm just not into it anymore. I know it "Jumped the Shark" a long time ago, but until this year, I always managed to really get into it every season. All of the characters are just like family to me. I started watching it my junior year of high school, and its just been one of those constants in my life since then. Anyway, I guess I'm feeling a little neglectful since I haven't kept up with it this year. With almost the entire original cast gone, and so many others who have since come and gone, it's hard to care as much about the "new people"....and as I'm typing I'm having to remind myself about how it's just a television show.....gheesh. So sentimental.
Are you watching Storm Chasers on The Discovery Channel? It comes on Wednesday evenings at 9pm (Central Time). My husband says that before he dies he wants to chase down a tornado. I asked him to please wait until I've already died. I don't understand the need to see the tornado in person. What's wrong with watching it on T.V.? But, after watching this show, I can see how the adventurous, thrill seeking folks out there would really think this is fun. The scientists, reporters, and film crew are all chasing down tornados to get data, a story, and the "perfect" imax shot for a film. They have different goals, but they are ultimately trying to help improve the understanding of these massive works of mother nature. Now that I've seen it a few times, I am really fascinated by all of it.
Is anyone watching Brotherhood? We love this show! Season 2 is well under way, and I think it just keeps getting better. Brothers Michael and Tommy Caffey, two Irish kids from Rhode Island, are all grown up. They have taken two very different career paths. Tommy is a state legislator, whereas Michael is a gangster.
We were really into The Sopranos, so this show filled the void when it ended. It is similar, but different in many ways. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out on Sunday evenings on Showtime.
Any fans of Las Vegas out there? This is another show that we have been watching since the beginning. I have to say that the best thing about it is the Elvis theme song. I used to make my poor dog dance around with me to this song before Cameron was born. Now, it's Cameron's turn. I just can't help myself. The plots are a bit predictable, but that's OK. I watch it for Josh Duhamel and my husband likes Molly Sims. So, it's a win-win. This season, James Caan is no longer running the Montecito....I liked him. But, Tom Selleck has joined the cast. Last week's episode featured "T.C." and that other sidekick from Magnum P.I. It was cool because their professions remained the same (helicopter pilot and club owner). I think it's the perfect fun show for a Friday night. Check it out tonight on NBC.

Chris and I love using Netflix. We received a one year plan as a Christmas gift from my parents. Basically we get to always have a movie to watch. Since we hardly ever go out to the movies anymore, Netflix is perfect for us. We can take turns picking out movies. What's really cool to me is that I can find out so much information about the movie before I select it. Also, when I'm in a video store I tend to just grab something so that I can go home. I can never remember the older movies that we missed when they were new releases. Do you use Netflix or Blockbuster on-line?
Last 13 Picks on Netflix (click on the titles for IMDB information)
1. The Killing Fields (1984)
2. The Verdict (1982)
3. Witness (1985)
4. Next (2007)
5. Disturbia (2007)
6. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006)
7. Taxi: Season 3 - Disc 1 (1980)
8. Good Night and Good Luck (2005)
9. Raging Bull (1980)
10. City of God (2002)
Next we'll receive:
11. Blood In Blood Out (1993)
12. World Trade Center (2006)
13. The Fog of War (2003)
Any thoughts about any of these? I'd love to hear them! Happy Halloween!
Has anyone else fallen for Leonard and Sheldon? Well, I guess I can't leave out Penny, Howard, and Rajesh. I thought this show would annoy me, but I love it! These guys crack me up. They're the ultimate nerds(actual physicists)....trying to make it in "normal" society. My favorite one so far was when Sheldon's mom came for a visit. (In addition to David, from the show "Roseanne" you'll also see Darlene and Jackie) I think the writers of this show are phenomenal. If you haven't seen it, check it out tonight on CBS!
